Next week we are headed to Pittsburgh to visit Bill Strickland and the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild. Part of Bill’s philosophy is to build amazing environments to program kids for success. After a 6.5 million dollar capital campaign he opened a 62,000 square foot arts and career training center. It includes a world class ceramics studio, a jazz concert hall where jazz legends give concerts, a gourmet culinary arts school, and a photography school. There is natural light, art, and fresh cut flowers throughout the facility.

This is an amazing place and an inspirational man. We are looking forward to meeting Bill and gathering new ideas for the future of Progeny.

Nutrition Made Easy

Nutrition has become so complex that it’s hard to get a handle on it. There’s too much conflicting information.

Here’s an easy rule. Imagine that you own a million dollar race horse. Would you feed it Doritos and Coke?

The next time you cram something questionable down your face ask yourself if you would feed it to your horse. If it’s not good enough for your horse could it possibly be good enough for you?

Happiness

We’re always chasing after so many things. We forget that no external thing or accomplishment can make us happy (yes even the NBA). That’s not how it works.

Here’s David Vaughn’s story. He was one of the top prep players in the class of 1991. He made it to the top and crashed. He’s a happier and more importantly a better person…without the NBA.

They have little money, but they never have been happier. He thinks back to the ’90s when he played in the NBA, living large and acting wild like a child with too many quarters in an arcade.

“If I had any advice for the young guys coming into the league today, it’s prepare for a future beyond basketball. If you’re not careful, everything can disappear.”

You can appear to have everything and live a life of little value. On the other hand you can appear to have nothing and live a life of infinite value.
