During one fast and furious 3 hour session we learned more than we did all year.

We talked about everything under the sun…tutoring ratios, academic testing standards, fund raising, corporate sponsors, honor codes, transportation of kids, nutrition, and developing our own individual style.

They consistently urged us to think differently and to be bold.

Below are some pics from their facility. Notice the natural light. It’s one of those buildings that somehow make you feel like a better person. This is something that we are also shooting for.

Next week we are headed to Pittsburgh to visit Bill Strickland and the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild. Part of Bill’s philosophy is to build amazing environments to program kids for success. After a 6.5 million dollar capital campaign he opened a 62,000 square foot arts and career training center. It includes a world class ceramics studio, a jazz concert hall where jazz legends give concerts, a gourmet culinary arts school, and a photography school. There is natural light, art, and fresh cut flowers throughout the facility.

This is an amazing place and an inspirational man. We are looking forward to meeting Bill and gathering new ideas for the future of Progeny.

Here is a video with an overview of the facility and their projects. I would also highly recommend Bill’s book “Make the Impossible Possible”.

“Good artists copy, great artists steal”. -Picasso

We are now working with the construction planners and architects to design what the Progeny Center will look like (you will be able to see the floor plans and elevations at the team banquet on November 4). Since we want the facility to be a work of art…part of the design process is seeing the good ideas that other designers have come up with.

The foundation has an invite to visit the Hoosiers’ new 25,000 square foot weight room (the largest in the nation) and the 22,000 square foot academic support center. Both are located in the new north end zone at Memorial Stadium.

If you are interested in joining us on the trip to Bloomington contact Coach D.

Our last visit was to the Center for Leadership Development…where we came up with lots of ideas for the library and classrooms.

We’ll post the pics and video from our travels as we look at different facilities.

Last night we had a great workout. Dustin Coffman from IU strength and conditioning was in working with the kids. He walked us through some manual resistance training that was made famous by the Penn State football program. We had some great coaches versus players pickup games. It was a good time. It’s nights like these that we had in mind when we drew up the plans for this year. Lil Mike Saunders came by after the first grade game and still in uniform went to work.

The players made their plans for strength and vertical work on the SuperCat and took home their EAS protein. We now have EAS post workout drinks at Progeny Park. This is part of the nutrition program that we have been working on.

We’re looking forward to a great July.

Keep working hard.
